warning: big group at pebble and pistol this weekend
I ran into the group this weekend, wasn't really a big deal. Only sugestion I would have is if you have routes top-roped. OFFER don't expect to be asked to pull your rope out of the way if you are not climbing on it. Its a common mistake made by many large groups. The students don't know any better, but the "staff" should. Other then that it was fine.

to Parhelia and all university/club groups. Aside from the digressed pissing match, I don't see an indictment of these groups, other than they do concentrate impacts at a focal point, i.e. around the bases of the few "easy " routes in the Red that are easily approached. That is understandable that these groups will seek out these routes as these groups are for the most part beginnng climbers.
I think that these groups need to be managed better. They need education about what is desirable behavior in group size and cliffline etiquette, etc.. Also these groups should be tapped as a source of membership. What better demographic than a self selecting group of smart young people with a good vibe for the outdoors who will more than likely have desposable income in a few years.
As I have said, I feel this is more of shortcoming of the management of these groups and a missed opportunity to befriend a good group of people.
I am sure that both your group and all others would gladly comply with any suggestion. We just need to decide what those best management practices are.
Again, the CAC and RRGCC.
I would like to hear from Strum again about how the weekend went.

Yeah, it would be interesting, but in reality my bowels would evacuate themselves if he/she/it ever even typed www.redriverclimbing.com into their browser again let alone posted again. I bet they didn't even read a single post after they posted their "warning". Not saying they wouldn't, just saying I would be shocked if they did.I would like to hear from Strum again about how the weekend went.

...quitting drinking is kinda like washing your hands after you take a crap...why start now?
Great point Hugh, I really think that's how we all feel. No one wants to demonize the groups but to educate.
Oh and SM, that's not your imagination. The horns are really there it's just that my hair is pretty thick and usually hides them.

Well, actually, "they" did post a second time (if I recall it correctly) and checked-in on this thread in particular. Granted, I don't know if "they" will read though the massive amounts of great discussion that has come forth from "their" question but it is only Monday morning. Give "them" a chance.SikMonkey wrote:Yeah, it would be interesting, but in reality my bowels would evacuate themselves if he/she/it ever even typed www.redriverclimbing.com into their browser again let alone posted again. But I second that request. Hey "you" how did your trip go and what did your fellows think of the Red?
I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Ah, I didn't see the second post, but I very well could have overlooked it. And you are right, the thread has only been up since Friday. For some reason I thought it had been put up earlier. .........."I'd like to, meet Virginia.....yeah yeah, meet Virginia....."

that'll teach anyone to give advance warning of their intentions at the red....you will be harangued, morally degenerate for not getting a permit, chastised for your erosion responsibility, asked to put money on the table, volunteer a to pick up roadside trash with the convicts, and bascially dissuaded from having a good first encounter with climbing.
sorry newbies, this truly is the "cool, happy, no rules, it's all good, brah" climbing community...a bunch of hypocrites protecting their own, and eating the newborns....enjoy your stay in our community...
