Just 6 as long as you only count the dogs.

pru wrote:the trouble with these fences is that they do not keep other dogs out. This is a problem in my area with jackasses who do not supervise their dogs, but may not be in yours. Another consideration is that some dogs will decide that whatever is outside the bounds is worth a moment of pain. Once they figure that out, the fence becomes useless (though Bailey doesn't seem like the hardheaded type who would do this). Note that if you crank up the stim too high, burns can result.
Damn - beat me to BOTH issues! If your dog is fast, it may not have enough time between the warning and the shock to stop and figure out how to not get stuck outside the perimeter. (This is a big issue for racing dogs like Greyhounds and Whippets, but other fast running (and not so bright/bull-headed) dogs can do this.) This can make the "fence" worse than useless..

That happened with my brother's dog.

Bailey is already in a tall fence, but she clears it. She dynos to the top horizontal bar, does a wicked mantle move and then tops out the problem.

when we got our danes, they did not permit electric fences because so many of their rescued dogs had come because the got out of the electric-fenced yard. i've also heard of dogs that would stand close enough to the fence to set off the warning buzzer and literally wait until the battery dies. not all dogs are dumb.

i hope you find a good solution to keep bailey safe. in the mean time - sounds like she needs to start hopping on some 5.1's to start!

when SUVs lost their luster people traded em in... that seems to be the KY option for animals and children as well, good luck as I've been fortunate to be blessed with a lovely well behaved sweet pea named Sage

IMO electric dog fences are cruel and are only warranted when you have thoroughly exhausted all other options.

Just my 2 cents, I haven't owned a dog since I was a kid. Yet I remember that dog never left the yard, she "knew" better.

yeah, take rhunt's advice. beat your dog so he "knows better", but don't get that stupid electric fence.

Where in my post did I write "beat your dog?" Did I miss something or are your crusty old eyes bothering you again?
