Rocktown vs. HP40

Post by haas »

Is HP40 worth all the hype? Or is Rocktown the unsung hero that I've been hearing about. Initially Sarah and I wanted to spend about 3 days at each, but we want to bring our dog, so is HP40 worth only hitting for a day? Why or why not?

A day at HP is better than no days at HP. For me, I think they are both as good as each other. One has showers and a store and is kinda like a city park when you see other kids hanging around. The other is totally remote with sweet camping and has shittons of problems/areas that spread everyone out. Rocktown is the current favorite but that's only because I've had multiple trips to HP in the last couple months. Go there, even if it's just for a day, then spend the rest of the time at Rocktown.

You'll freakin love both of those places but I'd get at least a day in at HP if I were you.

thanks Charlie. We are going to hit HP40 no matter what, it's just for how long. A dog tangles up the logistics.

HP40 is my favorite bouldering area EVER.
But then again, I don't know much about bouldering.

HP40 is worth the hype. Spend at least a day or two there.

Bringing a dog to HP40 just forces you to take those necessary breaks. We've brought our little guy along & one of us takes a break every other hour to go walk him around a bit (outside the gate in the big grass field, where dogs are welcome). Sure, it would be nice to bring the dog along all day...but I understand that if you want to play on his jungle gym, you have to play by his rules.

HorsePens is great. I find it hard to climb there consecutive days though. I'd suggest going down for two days, taking it easy on the first while you get to know the area, and then waste yourself on the second. If you have callused tips, you'll probably be able to hold out longer than I.

Rocktown. Except for having to poop in the woods. Definitely Rocktown.
