Looks like the recent repairs of FS9 didn't hold up too well:

Looks like the first place. I wonder about the other 2. They weren't as bad.

you could tell they did a halfass job of it the first time. but i don't think that hill really wants a road on it. the soil seems like some of the most uncompacted stuff around.

I wonder what they'll have to do to solve this problem? Anyone?
It sucks because I'm sure they'll have to close it for another few months pretty soon to fix it. Y'all better get those Lower Region projects done quick if you've got any.

Steve and I saw that as well this weekend. Doesn't look good for cars and such, but it might be just right for....cross country skiing. Let it snow!!!
Sure enjoyed biking out there this past summer.

They need some support like those just added along KY 77, otherwise this will just keep happening when we have tons of rain. Who maintains this road? The forest service or the county? I'm guessing the forest service.

Forest Service Road 9 is on Forest Service land and is maintained by the FS. This is the same spot on 9 that washed out Memorial Day weekend. They could drive piles on the downhill side of the road and backfill (like along KY77) to shore up the road, and do the same on the uphill side (like at the Pebble Beach trailhead) to keep the rest of the hill from sliding onto the road. One or both would be pretty expensive and we all know the FS is strapped for cash.

I think the work done along KY 77 was done by the state as it is a state road that runs through the National Forest.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

Are you on crack woman???? Skiing? Geezus.

You and Steve should go to canadaclimbergirls house and do some backcountry skiing. Be sure to keep her house safe, as she will be at mine....
