I Finally Did It!

That's it! My body has had it with this climbing sh#*. I think I partially ruptured the tendon sheath in my left middle finger yesterday, not to mention my left rotator cuff hurts like a bitch.
And so starts my long break from climbing. How long? I'm not quite sure. I have to convince myself to go see a doctor to hear the horrible news.
I think I'll take up swimming for a little bit...anyone else have any ideas on how to spend my time while I'm not climbing?

Sorry to hear that you hurt yourself. You're Leslie, right? If yes, we saw you up at Torrent a couple weeks ago. You said you were from Chicago and I mentioned climbing at the Warrenville gym and you said you used to work there.
Hope you recover soon. Climbing injuries seem to last forever.

Leslie, have I met you? I think I met a Leslie at Torrent one day by the .11's, and then again at Miguel's a few times after that...
Either way, if your shoulder can take it, do yoga-- it's awesome, and gives you the same sense of tangible progress as climbing. However, the poses can be pretty upper-body intensive. If you're looking to maintain core strength and avoid strain on your upper body, go for pilates (I don't really dig it too much, but a lot of people do). Other than that, I'd say just do a bunch of cardio to stay in shape... I like the elliptical machines because it can still be a pretty strenuous workout, and you can read at the same time.

i used to be all gimped up all year long when i lived in mi/ driving 6 hrs everyweekend to climb at the red/ having no time to do anything else.
- make some time to do other things/ (crosstrain/cross-strain?), and you probably don't have to quit anything. you damn quitter.

I have gotten into trail running for my off days. It's so much more enjoyable than pavement, and better for you too.
When i was injured last year i spent the entire summer learning to slackline, it can be almost as addictive as climbing. Makes hanging out at miguel's more fun, too

buy some acid or mushrooms or even peyote and go for walks.
