Re: Gates closed and locked
I never did quite understand the reasons behind such measures. It costs them nothing to leave the gates unlocked. But now that's it's locked and you're not supposed to go on the land, how could they regulate that? Because the funding isn't there to keep someone posted at the gates, or it wouldn't be locked in the first place.

i've never been invited to a teabagger party, but if bike only access and free camping are part of the plan....

its more about road and access "maintenance". Government shutdown doesn't seem to be a big problem if you got two working legs and enjoy free camping.
Re: Gates closed and locked
For the record the PMRP and MFRP are open, they always have been and always will be. There are no gates to lock only trails to hike and routes to climb.
Please enjoy these wonderful assets that we as a climbing community own and love.
See you at Rocktoberfest!!

Re: Gates closed and locked
But there are gates at the PMRP, and if we don't pay, then they maybe locked... Or is that just a threat from the past???
I don't have haters, I have fans in denial.
Re: Gates closed and locked
The only gates on the PMRP are from the oil company to limit vehicle traffic up what would become a difficult drive. Most of them are not locked. That is why we have dedicated parking areas.
There has never been a threat of closing the PMRP. However when something is financed, the same way it applies to a house or car, if you default on the loan you risk that financed asset being taken away.
The PMRP was paid in full in 2012 and at that time it was put into a land trust. The PMRP will always be open.
The MFRP is currently financed through the Access Fund Land Conservation Campaign. Just as with the PMRP, we are confident we can make the mortgage payments on this great piece of land but only with the support of the climbing industry and climbing community!
Hope to see you at Rocktoberfest next weekend!

Re: Gates closed and locked
What is the time line or plan for full access to the public for Miller Fork?
Are we waiting for full infrastructure to be developed or is the RRGCC willing to just say "its open, but at your own risk and don't screw it up, break your car, get stuck, or block people in."
I am in no way being critical of the process or the RRGCC, and I am just curious.

Re: Gates closed and locked
The RRGCC has never said that access to the PMRP or MFRP is restricted or closed.
Any visitor to either property must complete a land use waiver, and you can do that here.

We are currently working on the Flat Holler parking area, which should be completed by Rocktoberfest. Then our focus will turn back to infrastructure on the MFRP.
And yes: as always, please do not block roads, oil wells and turn-arounds.

Re: Gates closed and locked
I am not saying that the RRGCC has stated that access is restricted, but I do believe that not publishing directions is not "full" access.
Another question. Would the RRGCC be supportive if a person posted full directions on this site or at all the climbing gyms?
I am asking because a lot of people keep asking me "when is it going to open?". I respond with "it is". Then I get "can you give me directions?"
I am not sure how to respond to the "directions" question???
Even as a developer I am getting a lot of conflicting information and rumors and I do not want to be saying or doing the wrong thing.
