For those of you that may not have heard the story of my first rock climbing experience, here's an abbreviated version:
Cavers was the first rock climb that Frank Becker and I ever did. For me it was also the occasion of my first date with a beautiful Mt. Sterling girl that I met in geology class at UK. Me, the girl, and Frank Becker met up with Martin Hackworth for what was supposed to be a day of caving, but Martin had loaned out his spelunking gear and said we were going to have to go rock climbing instead. I didn't even know what rock climbing was. Anyway, it was 7 degrees that morning as we trudged through the snow up to Tower Rock. It was incredibly beautiful with snow on all the ledges and massive ice inside the final chimney pitch. I remember being a little freaked by the fact that Martin would lead a pitch, then sit on a ledge, brace his feet, throw the gold line around his waist and yell "On Belay!". I made a mental note that I probably should take the first opportunity learn how this belaying thing was really supposed to be done, for surely that wasn't right. Anyway, all went well, except that my date had a hell of a time getting her spectacular tits past the squeeze at the top of the bolt "protected" chimney. By the time we summited and started rappelling down the icy chimneys my girl Martha was so terrified, or cold, that she threw her arms around me and wouldn't let go. I was in heaven. We made it to the ground safely, but I nearly killed us all as we blasted through Stanton on the way home. The near head-on didn't scare me all that much but it must have been a little too close for comfort as Martin, Frank and Martha dove for the floorboards of my granddad's car in anticipation of impact. The Highway Patrolman that pulled us over sure was impressed, but let me go with a traffic ticket and a court date. In the end, I fell head-over-heels in lust with the girl, was all but done with caving, and was absolutely hooked on climbing. Except for the ticket, it was one of the best days ever.
I guess one really can have an adventure on a dead easy rock climb.

Was Martha a keeper? The soaring praise of Martha's mammary apparatus sounds like she might still be with you, or sounds like your current spouse sticks to the sport climbing forum of RRC.com.

Martha was a keeper, alright. It just wouldn't have been right for me to have been the one to keep her. Martha was the social type, loved going out to the clubs and such while I loved my outdoor adventures. We had a nice fling that lasted a few months, then called it good.caribe wrote:Was Martha a keeper? I wonder how that spectacular rack is doing these days... ah, sweet wistful mammaries....
Re: Caver's - Tower Rock
She musta dumped you, Lar... can't imagine dragging her through, I mean, up Caver's Route at 7 degrees was very romantic for a "social type"...
