Trail running at the Red?

Post by Guest »

Since I've been down with an injury, I've gotten into trail running again. I'm totally digging it, too. I am the world's goofiest, slowest runner, but being bad at stuff has never stopped me from enjoying it. I'm fortunate to have a nature preserve with miles of gorgeous trails just a few minutes from my house.

I'll be at the Red this weekend and would love a change of scenary for a run or 2. Can anyone think of a good trail not too far from Miguel's that has some variation in terrain? (ie not just up one way, down the other - ugh!) I'm drawing a total blank! I need to be sort of close to Miguel's just because I'll have to leave my daughter there with someone watching her while I run, and I won't want to be gone too long.

Sandy, go run the trails at natural bridge state park. they are fun to run. just get a trail map of the park . or run the trail out to auxier ridge in the forest, great views on that trail.

Pigsteak and I have ran the Miguel's to the top of Natural Bridge a number of times...pretty fun.

I've done the trail at Military/Left Flank to Tunnel Ridge road and back..that one is fun....long

I've heard the Auxier(sp) Ridge trail is a good run.

SWEET! Thanks, guys. I can't believe I didn't think of Natural Bridge. DOH. The Left Flank trail would be a great run, too.

Now who will watch my daughter while I run Saturday evening?

Ask SCIN about trail running... he ran me off the approach trail to Pebble Beach one time. I was huffing and puffing a 50lbs pack and when I was near the top, this dart of lightning swoops by. He sent me tumbling down to the bottom of the trail! I had to walk back up the dang thing. By the time I got back to the top, for the second time, I had already drank all the water in my Nalgene bottles?!?!
Not a bitch.

The Pinch 'em tight trail looks like it would be a pretty good trail to run. Nice views too.

Courthouse to Double Arch to Auxier Trailhead. Its long and will beat you up.

Seriously, someone mentioned the trail on the ridge above frenchburg overhangs. GO to the top of the hill on 77 past Fortress and Phantasia and park on the right at the gravel lot. Then follow the trail out til it kinda fades. There are some cool overlooks on the right hand side as you go out. Otherwise stay to the left.

Rough Trail to Pinch 'em Tight is good. You can come up with a few different loops starting at Gray's Arch picnic area. SPeaking of that, Gray's arch is good to.

When it rains I like to do WHittleton Trail starting at the campground and running up til I am tired and then running back.

Tehre are too many options to list really. The Sheltowee heading north from Gladie is very cool. YOu run it up Gladie Creek until the ST drops backinto the valley then follow the creek (mandatory crossings) back ot the trailhead. That's kinda long but if you know some obscure connectors you can shorten it considerably.
