First 5.14 trad in the Red

Post by caribe »

I heard a rumor that on Saturday the hardest trad lead in the Red was established by Andrew Gearing at 5.14a at Eastern Sky Bridge Ridge. Very thin protection on a series of micro-nuts through a thin crux.
Damn I want to get gender reassignment and have children with that dude.
Any body got any more details . . . location, or pictures?
It is amazing that in the past ~month the hardest trad grade has taken three jumps 5.13a --> 5.13a/b ---> 5.13c ---> 5.14x

They were posted to Facebook if you are lucky enough to be said person's friend.

Andrew freed the aid line to the right of King Me. Super cool to see such a milestone in person! I'll try to post a picture soon. Etienne took some amazing pictures from above as well!

Mr. Gearing is The Man! I hope they do sell those photos to a climbing mag. It would be about time the Red get the attention it deserves for its trad climbing.
