Approach shoes

Which ones are best? A little sticky rubber on the approach would be nice.

For the red....? Or out west?

Out west they are nice when you are scrambling up rocks and slabs but in the Red approach shoes suck. Sticky rubber is about the worst thing you could use on mud and wet rocks/roots, which is what the approach at the red consists of 90% of the time.

Sorry, I have only used one pair of approach shoes so don't have any good suggestions...

You obviously don't understand the purpose of climbing shoes...

seriously, depending on where you are climbing and when you are climbing flip flops might be a good choice, chacos might be a good choice, the sportiva boulder x might be good, some trail runner like the sportiva exum ridge... you can't just say, "what are the best approach shoes" and expect a good answer

I usually go out and purchase about 150 dollars worth of bullshit and smear it on my feet. That's the best approach shoe. In all seriousness a pair of approach shoes in the red is not worth the money at all. But if you wanna look cool at the crag and make sure everyone knows your a climber (I do) get a pair of sportivas.

Why would flip flops not be a good choice in the red? Most approaches involve a ten minute walk on a dirt road or a well worn path through the woods.... My buddy wears full on backpacking hiking boots which I think is more crazy.
