I need some beta on table rock. For instance; where to camp, standard rack for the area, and good guidebooks. Also any other info you might have that could be useful would be greatly appreciated.

Camp by the parking area or one of the many sites along the road near the parking area. Parking lot fills up on popular days. Standard rack of cams and nuts. There are a few sport climbs. "Climber's Guide to North Carolina" is the book I have. Go back to NC Wall if you want to get away from the crowds.

Hey--a useful thread! ;) Any beta for Ship Rock, Shortoff, or Looking Glass camping? Ya think everything at the Glass except Hidden Wall & N Face will be insanely hot next week (M-W)?

Thanks!

There is free camping at the glass along a gravel road. Look in the nc guidebook for the info on camping. There is also a state camp ground right there, but it is $20 a night, but really nice. It will be very hot in the sun at any of those places. Short off is more of a winter area.

Table rock you just need a small standard rack and a lot of draws. Many routes can be done with just quick draws. My favorite that will be in the shade is north ridge and white lighting. Also the linville gorge around the mummy and daddy you will be able to find some shade.

If you happen to have tricams, NC might be one of the few places they are actually useful...

Plus the Gunks, Lover's Leap, Seneca, Eldo...I actually use mine in the Red all the time, but for route development more than actual climbing.

Also, is it worth taping up for the routes at table or would I look like an idiot walking around with tape on my hands?
