Just read a great article in wired (not online yet) about the anti vaccination movement, which is something I have followed and talked about with a few people before, but the article did a really good job of debunking it. So...
Sorry if this offends anyone that might be a friend, etc - but if you are part of the anti vaccination movement - you are FUCKING up. Big. Time. Seriously. There is NO evidence that ANY of the current vaccines cause Autism or other issue, there is, however, plenty of evidence about what happens if you get one of the diseases that are covered by the vaccinations.
Once the heard immunity drops enough in the next few years for these things to start spreading again, what are you going to say to the child that is crippled because of Polio, or the parents of a child that died from a disease that is totally preventable with a very safe vaccine?
That you let Jenny fucking McCarthy give you any kind of medical advice is just fucking lunacy.

Interesting I come across this thread after discussing this same topic with a co-worker last week. He has a small child and showed me the chart of vaccinations kids are "supposed" to get nowadays - it is mind boggling. When I was a kid I got MMR, tetanus, polio, maybe something else. Look at what kids get now:

You really think you can stick kids with this many needles without risk of side effects? I am not anti vaccine, but some skepticism is reasonable.

I've been a gumby longer than you've been climbing.
Just a few links to get you started on your own research. I totally agree the the big pharmaceutical companies are looking out for their bottom line, but the real science on this stuff is absolute.

This link should explain things pretty well. Just read some of the descriptions of a polio ward and how it disappeared very quickly once there was a vaccine. And these people want to go back to those days, just because they fall for some junk science? Fucking idiots.

Not against vaccines for serious diseases, but i'll pass on things like yearly flu, just not a fan of needles and I don't see enough personal risk to justify the vaccine (watch me come down with a bad case of swine flu next week).
And there is actually an intersting episode of law and order about this, They try to charge a mother for manslaughter because she skipped out on a vaccine for her kids, and caused the disease to be transmitted to another child who died.

I do have a beef with this. Folks I know who work in the health care industry are being forced to get either both flu vaccines or wear a mask. This is crap, it is the immunosuppressed who should choose the vaccine - it should be a personal decision. I watched a show on a health care worker pressured into getting the smallpox vaccine - it left her permanently disabled. If people choose a vaccine, then they should assume the risk for side effects, but nobody should be forced.krampus wrote:I was an almost avid anti-flu vaccination for while. Then I realized I work in a hospital where most people are imunosuppressed, I suppose I broke down.
And take a look at rotavirus, why do we vaccinate for this? Its like the flu!

Note how big pharm makes $$$ on these vaccines.....
