looking for adventure ...

Post by bcrock »

A friend is on the road working in Minneapolis. He may rent a car labor day weekend and meet me (in Chicago) somewhere in-betweenish for a climbing adventure. Not Devil's Lake. Looking for something that is worth three days. Less than three days would be fine if the climbing is extra special. Trad and/or sport.

Any ideas?

Governer Dodge State Park right outside of Dodgeville, WI is worth a couple days of sport and bouldering. I think there is info online at Dr. Topo or Mountainproject. There is climbing at Wild Iowa, right of 151 near Monticello, again enough sport for a good long weekend but it will porbably be a zoo over labor day. Also so bouldering at Rib Mountain in Wausau right at the top of the "mountain". I don't think there is any guide but there's some fun stuff. There is also Mississippi Palisades SP in NW Illinois, I'ver been there. Also Interstate State Park which is much closer to Min. than chicago. and finally, b/c I'm getting board of writing is Necedah. It's not a huge place but it has some good sport and trad and a nice view of the WI river. Theres an online guide somewhere, check the sites above. Its good for a few days. Good luck

I live in Platteville, about 25 minutes from Governor Dodge, but will not be around over labor day. Governor Dodge is not bad. Get on Mountain Project, lots of new bouldering put up over the last year and a half. The sport routes look decent, but I have never had a partner to try them with.

I would not drive all the way to wild Iowa. Why not bouldering at Devil's Lake?
