The road into Muir is, unfortunately, in such bad condition that we need to close Muir temporarily. Please do not attempt it, even with 4WD. You will not be able to get out, and will do more damage to the road.
The extended drought, after we rebuilt the road last year, did not give it an opportunity to settle and fill the voids. Now, it is a quagmire. We need to do grading and add a lot more gravel. Unfortunately, the road is too wet at this time to get any equipment on it.
We will get this fixed as soon as possible and post here when Muir is again open. In the meantime, we apologize for any inconvenience.
Rick and I especially regret this, in view of the tremendous effort by a great team of people who managed to get all of the downed trees off the road, and all of the trails within Muir cleared of the ice damage and passable. Thanks, Roger, Sara, Brett, Isaac, Crissie, Ryan, Sid, Jeff, Jeff C. N., Gloria, Rick, Kenny. and anyone else whom I am forgetting.
