W VS. TERROR: SOMETHING'S WORKING

May 30, 2008 -- IT'S an article of faith on the left that the Bush administra tion has done nothing that has enhanced our security - rather, its alleged blunders have only contributed to the number of jihadists who want to attack us.

Empirically, however, something clearly has made us safer since 2001. Successful attacks on the United States and its interests overseas have not increased, as had been widely predicted, but instead dwindled to virtually nothing.

Now even the mainstream press is starting to report that we've turned the corner in Iraq, that Obama needs to come up with a new plan ,something other than cut and run that takes that into account, that al qaeda is in disarray, and that radical islam is beginning to lose it's appeal (no shit, how's that?).

Man, that stupid evil Bush sure is getting lucky.

Don't read much, do you Charlie? The left's mantra has always been that "there was no plan". Well there is a plan, it's been continually revised in the face of an adaptive enemy and, by your count, I'd say we're nearing the end of step 3.

Personally, I'd be thrilled with a significant signs of stability (none of which I've seen yet) in 2 years.

Now, another tipping point may be near, one that sees the Iraqi government and army restoring order in almost all of the country, dispersing both rival militias and the Iranian-trained "special groups" that have used them as cover to wage war against Americans. It is -- of course -- too early to celebrate; though now in disarray, the Mahdi Army of Moqtada al-Sadr could still regroup, and Iran will almost certainly seek to stir up new violence before the U.S. and Iraqi elections this fall.
