see charlie, that wasn't that hard....I asked for someone to speak out, and you and meadows did. You just stated that the BOD is not the bolt police. That's all I needed to know.
btw, the BOD is another under appreciated group of individuals...
let's not let the real meaning of this thread get lost in the flames. there are some crappy routes out there, old and new. everyone who is a climber should have some input. let's take an old and a new line to discuss.
Jump for Joy and Sudoku...both moderate, both a waste of 4 minutes of your life. J for J...terrible bolt placement...should we strip the route, or should we move the bolts? or leave it as is to not destroy the integrity of the line?
sudoku...crappy rock, will always stay dirty. why not erase it and go elsewhere? or why not vote it one star and make everyone aware of it's chossiness?
As someone asked earlier, why are these piles getting bolted to start with? Hard question to answer for me.
I get excited, I get inspired, I get bored, I get bolt happy. Depends on the day. Every once in awhile I find a gem, but I can tell you the crap routes I bolt get way more comments than the stellar ones. So maybe it is the attention. Like a spoiled child, I prefer any attention over no attention. I like to see my name in a book. I like the feeling of "creating" something, since I am not musical or artistic. I like cleaning rock, and discovering the moves (with out the chalk). I like the PM that says "nice route. thank you." I like walking up to the Surf and seeing tons of people having a good time, escaping their ordinary lives. I like the friends I have made during the process. I like feeling important in my own little world. And I like giving back in one of the only ways I really know how.

for the record, snyd was not one of those I insinuated was bolting illegally back in the day. he has let me know that the rules with the FS were a bit different when he ruled the roost.
thanks snyd for clearing me up.

Pigsteak,
Don't take this too far. I would have loved to bolt illegal routes. I hate authority and everything it stands for. It is unfortunate for me that my routes were bolted in a more simple and less rule filled time. Go figure.

Whats wrong with jump for joy, it may not be the best line, but I still enjoyed it and it was worth doing as a noob.
