FAITH:

Whatahutch you could not be more wrong about, "everybody uses faith everyday".

Putting your money into the bank is not based on faith in the bank. Lets start from the beginning. The first time you got a pay check you decided to put it in the bank... Why? Because your parents do it and so do almost everybody else in the world. You may even research banks to find out which one is the best for you. Then you start putting your money into the bank and every month you get a bank statement and, "wow" your money is there. You take your plastic card to the store and you buy something, and "wow" it works!

You are not using faith in this situation. You are using knowledge, experience and facts about the bank and banking in general. If for some reason you deposit a check and the money does not show up in your account, then you would call the bank and find out the problem. I could be a bunch of different reasons; bad check, human error, computer error... Now, if you keep putting your money into the bank and you never get it back you may choose to find a different bank. Do you see how you are not using faith in this situation?

In reality most people do not use faith at all in their lives (or very little).

Lets look at it in a different way. Because this is a rock climbing forum, lets deal with rock climbing. If you go to a cliff and you do not have a partner and your are just looking for somebody to belay you, what do you do? Do you just take any person at the cliff and have FAITH in them to give you a good catch... NO? (i hope). You talk to people, look at their gear and get a feel for if they know what they are doing. Once you have found somebody that you are pretty sure (maybe 90%) that they will give you a safe catch. You are not using faith in this situation, because you are using lodgic, knowledge and facts about the person. This does not mean that for sure the person is 100% safe, but when can you be 100% sure of anything.

Now what is faith then??? It is when you make a choice that goes aginst lodgic, facts, science, experiences, etc...

EXAMPLE:

Believing in god(s). There is no scientific proof, really no lodgic, and very little if any experiences (some may say they have had them, but in that case, to each their own) and NO facts. Now you will say, "but there is no proof that god does not excist". This is true, but this is not proof of a god. So looking at all the evidence and because we cannot not for sure there is not a god, I will be very generous and say that there is a 5% chance that god is real ( in reality I would say it is much less then that). So if 0% if forsure no god and 100% is YES for got, which way would you round to??? I would round down to NO god, people that believe in god round up to YES... Now that is faith!!!

So I ask chad and any other believers... Why when you use lodgic, facts, science, and experiences to make every other decision in your life, would you leave one of the most important parts (religious and world views) of your life up to faith??? It makes NO sense.

SORRY FOR THE SPELLING ERRORS, I AM WRITING THIS QUICKLY BEFORE I LEAVE AND PLUS I AM A BAD SPELLER. I WILL COME BACK LATER AND FIX MY MISTAKES. IF SOMETHING IS UNCLEAR, JUST LEAVE A POST.

ynp, you could not be more wrong on the checking account analogy....

once off the gold standard, even the mere dollar in your pocket is swirled around our economy by faith....a belief that the other person will continue to accept it for payment for services rendered..in fact, it could be said it is indeed blind faith because 90% of people have no idea how fragile our economy is....

it is true this is not the faith in a god sort of faith, and for that I have no dialogue. nonetheless, look at the bank runs in the 1920's here, Japan's collapse 20 years ago, Mexico devaluing the peso 15 years ago..the list is huge..there may come a day when all you believed about the US banking system collapses, and you will wonder what happened..the facts were there, but most go on faith.

so I ask all users of the almighty ATM, when you use facts and reason in all your other facets of life, why would you leave your financial health up to faith? makes no sense, but I bet you continue.

well once again... when it stops working... change what you are doing. it still is working (we will see how long...). but we are still not working on faith, including you (pig)...

AND when it stops working... I think money will be the last of your worries...
