I love movies that just blindside you in the end because lately, they're all predictable. I was left a bit disoriented but when you think back through the movie, the clues are there, although I still have questions.
Unless you ever saw the movie Identity... then this movie is predictable and disappointing. Identity was better as well.

Well thanks for ruining it for us, Rollo. I have seen Identity so I guess I won't bother with Shutter Island.

Rollo, No I didn't see it and the synopsis didn't clue me into the similarity. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

it's just that i was really looking forward to this movie... but about halfway thru it i was saying to myself "this better not be what i think it is." ...and it was. it's always better for me to go into a movie with no expectations.
Identity isn't exactly the same or anything... i guess i could've said "unless you watched A Beautiful Mind" as well. You see enough movies like that and your mind does an unconscious recall or something and ruins the movie for you.
glad the same didn't happen to you... then you would've thought it sucked.

Rollo, I get what you're saying, and have had this experience with other movies.
Another good one that I saw last night: The Road (Cormac McCarthy novel). They used a lot of interesting places to film it so that it looked like Apocalypse.

Just saw The Fall, which was by the same director that did The Cell.
"...is a mad folly, an extravagant visual orgy, a free-fall from reality into uncharted realms...."
The Road was a good novel (ok, audio novel for me), but I have yet to see the movie.
