I have used a double bowline with a double bowline backup for a while now. I have not had it untie on me yet!

How did this get moved to 'hijacked'? For RRC.com, this seems amazingly on-topic? (Except for my post here, of course!

I agree. This is actually about climbing. Knots are an especially interesting detail of climbing. I guess it's been hijakced because it is
so on topic.
So far no mention of the strength properties of these knots. From what I understand the double bowline provides more holding strength than a figure 8. If I remember correctly (and I'm probably not) the figure 8 provides 76% rope strength and the double bowline provides 80%.
Also, the Double Bowline is smaller and sexier than a Figure 8.
And on top of all that, the Double Bowline can be described in neat instructions featuring a rabbit, hole, stagehand, lightpole, tree, and/or a
bar.

I use a double 8 with a fisherman's back up. if I fall and can't untie the knot I just cut the rope above the knot and retie.
The bowline is a sailing knot. Any pirate worth his salt knows that. Harrrrggghh.

Oh I get it now. 3 leads=3 knots.
