What knot to use?

Post by Ultra »

It seems that there is a controversy about what knot to use. Rock and Ice just had an article and it seemed to be a hot topic. It just got me thinking and wondering what others use. I'm using a double bowline with a fishermans back-up. It's all I have ever used since I put in ten minutes trying to untie an "8" after my first fall.

i use a double fishermans not from my penis to the end of the rope i'm climbing on. i've been doing this ever since i sent lucky duck soup by saving the weight of wearing my body harness.

Which one is the double bowline? The one that loops through the harness twice or the one that loops twice around the rope? I use the one that loops through my harness twice and have fallen so many times on this knot.

sweet - sorry I missed that.

Joe always used a double bowline to tie off to his cock ring. Maybe that's why he never wanted to lead/take a whip...I thought he was just a big wuss. Hmmm I might have to rethink that. Anyone have that picture of Joe's cool sport rack sling...Ho? Black Diamond should definitely market his idea.

For real though, I have whipped on the 8 and never had too much trouble getting it untied. You just bend over the top of it and it loosens up. Just depends on if I am pumped or unconscious when I get to the ground. I am not good with knots, so it took me a long long time to get the 8 down, I know I suck.

I like how people thread the tail back thru on the 8 instead of a back up, my back ups always come loose anyway.

i never had trouble untying an 8 either. the sport-fag thread-the-tail-back-through trick kinda freaks me out. i don't like tampering with the knot that's going to keep my ass off the ground.

if a person weighs more than a piece of paper, the 8 will be tough to untie..assuming they aren't always playing "tina toprope"....

the Red was perfect for July today, btw....

If you dress a figure 8 its not as hard to untie. Also if you carry around a pair of greasy needle nose pliers you shouldn't have too much trouble either.

I use the double bowline with a yosemite finish (tuck the end up through the rabbit hole and tie a fisherman's around the standing end of the rope).
