You can get one for about half that if you look hard enough... But if you're gonna go full auto, I'd get something bigger.

haha. nice definition--the only part that isn't subjective is the "through military means".

My grandma lives within about 30 minutes of the gorge. Within the last 30 years or so, there have been about 4 incidents where someone threatened to or actually tried to break into her house. In all four cases, she used a gun to convince them to move along. There have also been incidents where people were trying to steal livestock, plant pot, or steal timber from her property. In that last case, she bounced a couple rounds off the blade of the guy's bulldozer.

So I find it equally silly when people say it's paranoid to think you would ever have to defend yourself with a gun.

Not buying that... As hard as it is to find a good belayer, it is impossible to find a shooting partner with any muzzle discipline.

I got muzzle discipline in spades! I got the knots on my head to prove it!

I'd move before living in an area where I felt that insecure.

you're actually more exposed to violence in the city. When you are exposed to it out here, It has a tendency to be more lethal. For example. The road that turns off of bald rock and goes back to purgatory. If you take a left instead of going up to the switch-back, Then go another 100 feet and hang another left. About a hundred feet from there there is one of those crosses that people use to mark accident sites. It has a picture and the guys name on it. If I'm not mistaken he's the guy who gave some people a ride. The people were all hopped-up on pills and thought the guy looked like a "narc". So they beat him to death with a chunk of stove wood and parked his car on top of his body. He sat there in the S.R. for about a week before the cops got out there and figured out thats where the missing person was.

All this happened within shouting distance from where all you cool kid climbers climb. this is not the first time that the S.R. has been used as a body dump.
Most times people who carry....you wouldn't even know it. Till something goes down. More people carry than what you'd believe. People you wouldn't even suspect. Grandma's and such.

Keep the Mexican Standoff alive. It helps keep everyone in check. Both sides.
