The 2nd Amendment isn't just for the right wing neocons...

Post by Wes »

It is for all of us, as individuals. While I wish the right/republicans would give a bit more support to all the other parts of the bill of rights/constitution sometimes, I also wish the left/dems would get behind, or at least not be so against the 2nd. I think that the last 20 years shows that most, if not all the restrictions don't really work. And, by the sound of things at today's supreme court hearing, to some extent, they are going away soon anyway.

I do think it is kinda intresting that the path the lead lawyer took was to try to broaden the use of the 14th amendments “privileges or immunitiesâ€

surely you don't actually think that the country is full of only "right/republicans" and "left/dems", do you?

allow me to pull a fitting quote from some other thread:

Heh, no - but, if you look at how things are framed, and who votes for what, then there is a very noticeable split on the 2nd, well over and beyond any of the others. Except for maybe the 1st is coming closer, and that is a really recent thing. Regardless of the 2nd, some of the legal arguments are very interesting, and could have very, very far reaching effects.

You talk about this shit and I want to tell you. I just busted a milk jug laying on its side at over a half a mile. I don't give a fuck about what the fags in washington say. I'll come out on top!
Wes On a more personal note; you seem to in one sense come down on the side of the gun-toters. Then in another you come in on the side of the other. So whats the deal? Am I going to post a bunch of shit about how I believe the second amendment and then you're going to fade on me and make me look like a fool out here all by my lonesome? So let me say this unequivocably;" I'm down with the #2. If you're not you're a target. Try to take my shit and your dentist may recognize you.

No, fully support the IInd*. But, I am also a fan of I, and III to XXVII (except for maybe the drinking ban one). IANAL, or even all that well read on some of them, but all of them apply to everyone. I guess I just see it as strange that people can be so intense on just one or two, but pretty much throw the others under the bus. And that goes for both sides of the isle.

I was just always bummed that more people who are more to the left don't get behind II, thus the other links/tittle.

Kinda waiting to see what the libertarian party folks had to say about the “privileges or immunitiesâ€

I'm a freedon loving conservative so I am with you on the gun issue. But what constitutional freedom do you think conservatives lack respect for?

Abortion? Fine, I'm more comfortable giving constitutional protection to the child (life, liberty, pursuit of hapiness) at a cost to the "reproductive rights" of the woman.

Very fine point... Many republicans shit themselves every time 'taking God out of school or government' is mentioned, and for some reason they love Bushey's Patriot Act.

The problem is that many of our polititians have never read the constitution they have sworn to uphold.
