I'm not against the existance of God. I'm not against the existance of unicorns. I think both would be cool. I Just don't believe it.

I am in Clevis's boat here. Add validity to your belief by putting it in words. I would like to see a response that is a sound document that resembles something like an academic argument paper.

I just want to get a clear picture of non-believer's beliefs.
Non-believers beliefs? The whole point is that "belief" is irrational. I know "irrational" can sound like a condescending word, but its really the only word available here. If you are unable come to conclusions based on the evaluation of reasons and evidence, then you are irrational (not you specifically).

In 2005 there was a study done about pathological liars. They were trying to figure out to what extent people could be subjected to these kinds of people and not notice. The results were difficult to assess because people believed almost everything. Even when stories would overlap and dates became mixed up, most people didn't catch it. Even when told about the mix-ups, the benefit of the doubt was usually given. People are suckers! Here...just drink this coolaid.

You shouldn't ignore things that don't make sense or add up. You should dwell on them.

The burden of proof is definitely not on us. It is certainly on those that make unverifiable claims. Lets hear your reasons for believing without resorting to either "faith" or "how everything is really complex". Maybe you'll get some conversions.

ok, shamis..what about this one..people talk about "believing" they can do a route, when clearly they suck and are in over their heads. isn't that beleif wihtout factual evidence to support it? everytime the grades are pushed in climbing beyond what was once thought possible, isn't that a push beyond belief?

I am afraid you will laugh at me.

Not really, however, I do feel that most will not have the level of respect for my response that they would give to anyone talking about anything else. I often feel disrespected when it comes to this subject. My belief does not equal stupidity.

However, I will do so, just not tonight, I have my wife to tend to since it is her birthday today.

don't waste your time whatahutch...not for me, but for all these smug SOBs who thing they have the world figured out, that they know the end all be all. I do not consider myself a beleiver in any stretch of the imagination, but being agnostic is the best a person with half a brain can do. these so called "atheists" are in it for shock value and to boost their own egos.

Whoa . . . Mr. Steak, are you serious? Everybody knows that they can't say beyond a shadow of a doubt that Christ didn't come to earth to die for YOUR sins. The same level of doubt has to be maintained for all the other claims made by the thousands of religions throughout history and geography. Some of these claims can be true, the ones that are mutually exclusive can not be true, but surely you appreciate the fact that these religious claims are arbitrary. As for the smug SOBs . . . who is more smug than somebody who tells you this is how it is and asks you to take it all on faith or else!? Is this you suckering me into a boxing match those inflatable gloves.

In all honesty you may be right about my level of disdain for all this standing on one's head for the amusement of wooden idols. God fucked up when he created me to kiss his ass. If ass kissing is really what Jesus and his Dad want, it is going to one frigid day in hell before they can expect that from me. I would not spray piss in Jesus' direction even though he were on fire.
