Leave your dogs in car while climbing at Muir, cool right?

I wonder how many people who voted no have ever crated their dog or took their dog to Petsmart for a grooming (caged) or to the vet (caged) for the day.

Well, you already got called out for it but I'll respond anyhow. Pets going for grooming/vet visits are caged so they can't escape or fight with other animals. Pets left in/at a vehicle are there because the owner didn't want to leave it home or take it with them. Though I respect the desire for debate you're comparing apples to oranges.

Oh okay, I get it. So it's about the dog getting their feelings hurt.

I have never left my dog in the car at Muir but, I don't really see a problem with it if the temperature is cool and the dog is mellow.

The issue has nothing to do with temperature, mellowness, or a dog's rights.

If a landowner asks you not to bring your dog, then don't bring the dog.

I find it interesting the rationalizations that people use for when it's "OK" to lock up an animal. A crate, a small kitchen, a truck; work, doctor, climb... It's all the same (to a dog).

That said. Don't lock up your dog at Muir. It is against the rules. Duh!!! Clearly rule number #23b addresses this!!! The Webers are thorough (awesome too).

Kind of a moot point isn't it. Of course breaking the rules at Muir Valley is not cool. I kind of thought the issue was about leaving a dog in a car. I don't bring my dog to Muir because of the rules. All I am saying is that if I were allowed, and the temp was right and the dog is mellow, I think it would be ok.

No--the moot point is that if someone is going to a place where dogs are permitted, then they wouldn't be locking them up in the car in the first place.

Kyle, you are correct. I would not leave my dog in the car while I got to go play, that's why I don't (often) climb at muir any more. Its just that simple. I do leave her in the car while I go out to eat, and take road trips, and sleep while camping. Other than sleeping she is not in there for too long. I don't agree with the method, It's pretty damn selfish and inconsiderate to a most loyal friend. Rules and personal ethics aside, I don't consider it animal abuse to leave a dog in the car for long periods of time assuming they have water and the temps are ok.
