but on the other end of that pendelum are the tool sacks that believe that their 25th try on some over-ticked 12a is WAYYYY more bad ass then someone doing their first 8,9,10,etc on gear.
I think the first 8,9,10,etc is more badass. Because its the first. Because its advancing. I mean, climb 5.9 and enjoy it all you want... but don't say you can't climb 5.10 trad because its so much harder than 5.10 sport. Sporties do the same shit... I heard a kid at a comp the other day ask another kid if he'd done 5.13 yet. The kid said "No, but I could do The Force in 4 goes and probably Triple Sec in 2." Its the same shit... all talk, no action. All excuses.
The truth is that the climber is lacking, not the routes are harder. Don't make excuses. If you're truly enjoying the level at which you're climbing, you don't need excuses.

OW, where are you where you can't escape the barrage of 'traddie' spray that seems to be angering you so? have you been lurking around on RC.com?

I'm not joking around, excuses help me send, especially if I verbalize a few just before and in the process of putting on my shoes. But I will admit that I was just joking around about the toilet not flushing.

To make an analogy comparing sport and trad is like comparing an automatic and a manual transmission car. Out on the open highway there both quite easy to drive, but get on a twisty road, after dark, in the rain, in stop & go traffic, while trying to text message and you’ll find the automatic transmission is much easier to climb, I mean drive.
