Hey all, a little respect for a groundfall?...

Any news on how the climber is doing? Best wishes to him for a full recovery.

The bely either loaded the grigri wrong or held it down during the fall. Chaos ensued and I didn't figure out what went wrong. The kid should be fine I think he broke one ankle a sprained the other. Pretty luck considering he around the 5th bolt.

I've seen seasoned belayers almost drop climbers, using both a grigri and a stitch plate(ATC).

Shit happens.

I hope that the injured climber has a full and speedy recovery!

None of the people who belay me would allow me to deck from the 5th bolt of a climb unless they fucked up pretty bad, which I don't believe they would. Sorry rhunt, I just don't believe it happens unless the belayer screws up. Not that people don't make mistakes.

That's just my point Sprag, people do fuck up including you and I. None of the people I climb with would allow me to deck either, I wouldn't let them belay me if I thought otherwise. Yet shit happens. Everytime this happens, we are quick to say it was the result of an inexperienced belayer. Maybe it wasn't this time??

You just keep telling yourself that.

How many people on this board have been dropped/hit a ledge/taken a bad fall from trusted belayers they've climbed with regularly?

As rhunt said, people do screw up and that fact that you think your partners are immune to mistakes is foolishness.
