I have got family that lives in Hickory and they have some nice places to climb there. Nothing spectacular but a lot of trad, and most of the good places are right off 4wd trails so you can pull right up and climb.

For anyone who was joking about hell freezing over or pigs flying - you best put on your down parka and bust out that kevlar reinforced umbrella. The So Ill guidebook has been in the works for maybe four years now! No one blames Ulner (he's a seriously busy man), but it's kind of shocking that it's actually done!

true enough tom! my copy came this week, and the wait is worth it. just last fall, another 40 plus routes went up, so they are now catalogued. and the mysterious promised land is in the book.
rockclimbingdude, does you hickory family climb? or is it just you climbing when you go there? I'd love to meet some climbers in that area.

rhino...I am going to heed your advice..it is funny..I can sport hard 12, yet easy 5.10 on gear has me paying attention...it would be awesome to bring up my trad level.
ynot, where were you on the 12th? do you have an alibi? give me two non-climbing eye witnesses to your whereabouts....

Dude I was drunk, I was posting after 2am - No offense intended at all
NC has some incredible bouldering, Aid climbing and Trad. Moving there would not suck.

Look into VA sport climbing. There are a few areas and its closer than the NRG.
