I'd nominate Pinstripe as having my favorite view from the "top" of a sport climb. Twas beautiful up there on Saturday.

The southern region pretty and pristine?!?!?! Where can I get a pair of blinders yall are wearin'? Sure when you get to the top of a route, look around and check out the view it is nice, but the drive into the majority of the crags back there takes you past a lot of junk. There is nothing pristine about a well pipe drilled through the roof a rock shelter, abandoned rigs and structures, or long forgotten about pipe and electircal line. Typical greedy company behavior, cheaper to leave it all behind and put in new stuff than to be responsible and clean up after themselves. Now that said I have been fortunate enough to stumble on some really cool places out there and there are some great routes out there, but I don't want to sugar coat the fact that I'm climbing in the oil fields.

You can look at it that way, Steve. Your experience with anything is what you choose to make of it. It's certainly an assault to my senses to see that equipment out there, especially the discarded pipe and machinary that could be disposed of. However there was an abundance of wildlife out there and the flora is gorgeous, not to mention the incredible rock - all that rock! Since the Oil Co. doesn't have to let us climb there, I choose to appreciate what is good about the area. It is, after all, their land - to do with what they please.

Right on it is their land to do as they please, I just sometimes wish people would take better care of their land. All that crap doesn't keep me from wanting to go out there, sometimes I really enjoy being able to go climbing without having to do a long approach. The oil fields in Lee County are quite a mess, you would be appauled at some of the claims as to what goes on in them. A lot of that area lies within the DBNF bounderies, and could someday be FS land. When that happens will they FS use precious funds to clean up the mess left behind by irresponsible land owner/users? Even in the midst of all that crap I've been able to find some gorgeous cliffline, beautiful views, and even remains of early, early logging operations which makes me happy. Please don't let me sound bitter about having to climb out there, or stomp anyones thunder, just playing the other side.

They could have buldozed it flat and covered the ground in black ooze,like the beach of Valdeeze.

Yea, you forgot about Stain:
Sidepull, cross, crimp, match, deadpoint, crimp, smear right foot high, stretch to jug waaaaaay out left (don't look down at the last bolt right now), match on the jug and clip.

That's only a few feet of climbing.
