The draws in Muir are all steel and well maintained... not so for crags in the PMRP and elsewhere. That said, it is ALWAYS the responsibility of individual climbers to check and accept personal responsibility for the gear they choose to use while climbing.

It is actually a very important question and potentially critical to climbing access (as well as public safety), but perhaps not optimally discussed in a public internet forum. Many routes in need of rebolting are currently held up by the "fixed draw" issue.

Timely and topical.

Curious to have a look at those 2 draws this weekend. I have not yet seen any of the ClimbTech round steel biners become sharp, but always on the lookout.

Last weekend, Thierry Masquelin placed new ClimbTech permadraws on Vortex at Midnight Surf. ClimbTech permadraws have been hung on many routes throughout Muir. And, several of these - less than two years old - have worn to the degree that they have had to be replaced. Our original supply is gone, and we've just ordered more from ClimbTech to continue this maintenance. A big thank you to those who have volunteered to do this work and contributed some of this hardware.

It would be nice - although, an unrealistic expectation, I guess - for developers to pony up a little cash to pay for replacement hardware for "their" routes.

I think developers should be the last one to "pony up" Rick. IMO, they already did... they spent their time and money to equip the route, and have moved on to the next line to do the same again for us chuffers. It is we, the self entitled masses, that need to pony up.
