and don't drink out of the garden hose and wear your helmet -everywhere -remember that the freedoms you give away were probably bought with someones' blood before you were shitting yellow to begin with. I have noticed some highly educated medical personnel bucking at the live virus through the nose that is the H1N1 vaccine method- what would Kurt Cobain think??

No one pressured me, I just don't like the idea of possibly contributing to someones death, especially at a university hospital where a large number of the patients are indigent and may not be on top of their flu shots

Wes, I think you are putting it too simplistically.

Sure, there are anti-vaccine wackos out there, and I have had more than one occasion of someone forwarding me a link to anti-vaccination site that says blatantly wrong things and shows that the person blabbing about it has no clue, really. ( "Virus is a protein that infects the body" comes to mind...)

I don't buy into government conspiracy theories either...

But I do work in the medical field, and I know a bit more than I wish to about mistakes and missing data, and selective reporting. So I would not just blindly stick a needle into my child with the latest vaccine that was just approved for use.

An example that comes to mind is a rotovirus vacine. I refused to have my son vaxed with it. It was relatively new when he was born. I Did not believe that our circumstances required it, and was not sure about the vaccine itself. That vaccine was pulled off the market within a month after the pediatrician was earnestly telling me that it was perfectly safe...

Or HepB vaccine. I myself have been vaccinated as an adult because I work with human samples, and I fully intend to have my kids get vaxed, too. But I do not believe that it is necessary at birth. Or, more specifically, it in not necessary at birth for MY child, because I know that I do not have HepB infection. So, whatever the CDC guidelines say about it, my children did not get stuck with HepB at birth.

No flu vaccines every year here, either.

They did get polyo, MMR and DTaP. And varicella. They will eventually get HepB, probably HPV, and meningitis vaccine.

Nearly all of the medical staff that my husband works with are against this vaccine.

The consensus is that it is a lot of hype to make the pharm companies $$$$ The pharmacists that we know agree.

She's not a porn star; she posed in Playboy.

Some would say H1N1 was engineered in a lab to be used against the general public and that the vaccine is potentially more dangerous than the virus itself. Massive population reduction and sterilization are on the agenda for the cold-blooded eugenicists that are in power right now. Hopefully I'm just paranoid, but my advice is to be weary of anything your federal government is recommending you put into your body.

Yeah, and stop washing your hands too. The federal government has put mind control serum in all hand soaps.

This is what I am talking about when I say "fucking idiots". If you believe any of that shit, you are a fucking idiot. Period.

Lena - you have a great approach, and there is nothing wrong with researching, esp. new vaccines. I have never, ever seen where even the strongest advocates for vaccines say they are risk free. Because they aren't. If 5 out of a million have a bad reaction, it sucks from them and for their parents, no doubt. But, the benefits to the individual and to the herd, of getting vaccinations far, far out weigh those risks.

I haven't and wasn't going to get either of the flu shots, as I just figured I would get the flu, deal with feeling shit for a couple days, and move on. But, after reading more, and talking to people more, I am planning on getting them now. Not just for me, but also, so I don't infect others as well - enlightened self interest.
