smith is a nice place to go for a walk, pick boogers n that kind of stuff. The sport climbing is good if you've never been anywhere else, once you hit some steeps, doubt you'll go back unless of course ya went to far when you were picking and hit some grey matter..

I had a great time at Smith. It was much smaller than I had imagined, but still great climbing all over. We climbed sport, trad, aid, multi-pitch, and bouldered while we were there. For a rest day climb "The Pioneer Route" it is a 5.7 AO that goes to the top of the Monkey Face Tower. It climbs into and out of the monkey's mouth. It has trad pitches, an aid pitch, and a sport pitch. We rappelled "Just Do It" for our descent. If your skin gets sore then you can climb on the basalt of the lower gorge.

I think Smith has the finest technical Sport Climbing in the country. I suck at the technical stuff but all the elite climbers seem to love that shit...real rock climbers in my opinion not just jug haulers like myself.

Plus I have great friends that bought a house and some land in the park and I have a free place to stay anytime I want...gotta love those perks

There's nothing wrong with being a jug hauler rhunt.

I saw one climber from out west who called us "red river monsters" I guess he was climbing 5.12 out there but couldn't here. Don't know why.

Anyway, the more I hear about other places, the more I don't want to climb there.

don't let us dissuade you sprag..we are just a bunch of old codgers who think our piece of the climbing universe is the "be all end all".

Hmm. Scary runouts, slab, sketchy bolts. Don't worry, you aren't bothering me at all....I just don't like any of those things.

I didn't mean to imply that all red river climbers are jug hauler Sprag..that's just me...but I love it. There is only one thing that sucks about the red river gorge, the weather, there are many things that suck about other climbing areas like Smith.
