hangboard question

Post by cowboy »

Just bought a metolius simulator and was wondering if anyone had any creative mounting ideas.....mounting the hangboard that is :D . No chance in hell my wife will let me use a doorway in the house. I was thinking of welding a metal substructure and anchoring it off my garage wall. Any thoughts?

When we moved into our new house, I was in the same situation. I ended up mounting mine over the door from the garage to the laundry room. Much less visable and yet I still have it over the door! The only problems I've run into: Temperature varies with the seasons (so I end up closing the laundry room door to keep the "bought air" in) and the landing isn't the best in the world. Still, it was a lot less work for me to talk her into that than to come up with another option.

ah My dad and i are both climbers, and we live in this house withour a wife/mom. The hallway has holds screwed on and black marks everwhere.
But answering your question, try a tree branch.

mount it in the house over a door. talk your wife into it. if you want to get any good out of it, it has to be convenient. it needs to be in a prominent door way or better, arch in the house that you walk under all the time. i am serious. believe me. if you want it to help it has to be convenient or you will never use it.
Every time you walk under the door way, stop and knock out a few sets of ten to fifteen.
if you don't want ot scar the drywall, mount the hangboard on a piece of finsh birch/oak/maple plywood. then with another piece on the opposite side of the door, clamp in place over the door with two giant C clamps.
good luck.
the best job i ever had was one where i could put up a metolius hang board over my office door. i got really strong on the smallest edge. it did help.

Lurkist is correct.........it has got to be accessible. I have one in the TV room, so when I have to veg on Walt Disney videos for the 100th time-I can get strong.
Best year ever (no injuries and hard sends) was last year then this year........thanks to those boards!

who wears the pants in your family man! tell your wife how it is going to be! say"woman, I am going to put my hang board right here!" see how that adds to your domestic bliss.

I began negotiations with the old lady lastnight and surprisingly made some progress. Its not out of the question. But here is a question: how much weight can the standard doorway hold? I'm 6'4" and 215. My garage is fairly convenient, I can build some vertical support into the structure, and I won't have to repaint when we move. Still undecided.

funny how climbin 5.12 can make some people think they're billy-badass. Easy to talk shit on a messageboard. Keep it to yourself next time.

The doorframe should be fine. I used a 2"x10" wood board the length of the hangboard. Screwed it into three studs...about 3 screws per stud....then mounted the hangboard on that. Just make sure you hit the studs.
