Muir Valley access roads

Post by busty »

How is the road to the parking area at Muir Valley? Do you need a four-wheel drive vehicle to reach the parking lot?

Can anyone give me directions to there? I registered on the web page and tried to find it off 2016, but couldn't. Thanks.

road conditions and direction.

First off the road and approach are not bad. For parking make sure you use the parking lot, which is obvious. As for directions...off of 2016 keep taking the left forks. Once you pass the gate, a little ways down the road on the left is the lot. I went for the first time today and had a blast! Hats off to the climbers dedicating time and effort into developing this place. Oh by the way, don't pay attention to the private property signs

After passing the Carpet store on the hill the road curves and descends. Immediately on your left will be the gravel access road. Keep making left turns and you will be there within a few minutes. Shortly after the gate there is a parking lot off to the right down a short hill or continue forward to another parking area before the road descends sharply downhill. Soon Tantroft Hollow and Ponder Hollow will have a trail system connecting the two areas.

Access update from Rick and Liz:

J-Rock's directions are the easiest to follow. The map downloads from www.muirvalley.com are accurate, also.

A contractor is currently working on road building in the valley bottom but has been stalled significantly by KY's record rainfall this summer.

Remember the gate combination: 13-3-37, then push the little button to pop the lock open.

It is very important to be friendly to our neighbors and respect their property rights.

The entire road is Muir property. The neighbors buidling homes back there have easement right to the road. The first parking lot with the kiosk sign is all on Muir land. The second one is a temporary one that is partly on our road and partly on a neighbor's property, who has given permission to do so.

The "No Trespassing" signs translate to: "Welcome Climbers... ATVers, go away." We are having other signs made as soon as possible, some of which will be up for the Gathering.

This place is very new. Still much to do. Thanks for your patience.

Rick
