Circa Man @ Global Village - R/X Rated?

Post by Don McGlone »

I did Circa Man @ Global Saturday. After doing the crux and clipping the 4th bolt, I climbed jugs up to a stance, then climbed more jugs up to a stance and then finally arrived at the 5th bolt. While clipping, I realized that it probably was a grounder from about 40 ft. or so. Although the climbing after the crux was only around 5.7 or 5.8, would this not constitute a R or X rating? Or because there is lots of potential for pro between the 4th & 5th bolt, possibly the route could be deemed mixed instead of sport? Comments?

Definitely no fall territory up there.
I remember the 5th bolt being fairly small and rusty as well.

finish jug - yea, that's it. Unknown - 5.10d**

Stewy - I didn't look at it that close, but from what I remember there was potential for an assortment of placements. A wide range of cams and maybe even nuts and/or hexes. The climbing eases up considerably after you clip the 4th bolt. Big positive iron-oxide horizontals with good stances. Fairly steep, but if you make it that far with no worries, you should be able to cruise it. Just don't slip.

That climb is really cool. We didnt know it had a name so we renamed it, "cat-spider". Because while we were climbing it ( in the summer), two giant spiders, one under the first roof, and one under the second, had taken up base camp...So I took up a stick, while on the lead, to knock em down. and when they hit the ground, they actually made a noise (cause they were so big)...and somebody said from the ground that "they looked as big as cats"
