Hystrionic Behavior

Post by overhung »

Just thought I'd suggest to the mods that it may be a good idea to edit posts/ban users who repeatedly freak out in extremely inappropriate ways. I'm not talking about stifling their free speech or toning down strong opinions, I'm suggesting that when the mods sense that a post is directly attacking a person using really inappropriate language, they may choose to delete the post and ask the poster if they would like said post pm'd to the appropriate person. I know mods already monitor posts and glad they do. I've noticed a lot of (not playful) aggressive posts publicly insulting and demeaning other users. Maybe you guys are already doing this, but this middle-school hystrionics is really irritating.
I've had just about enough of this shit.

That is a good suggestion. It would be nice if the emotionally charged bit*h sessions between individuals were carried out in pm's. It definately gets old!

I know that the redriver climbing community is not dominated by aggressive hateful people. But, for some reason we see alot of that on this board. It seems as if an ego based competition has arisen to challenge people in their ability to bitch in the most foul way possible.

PM me with the specific posts and I'll have a look. Unless of course they are mine then, well... PM Wes, and please forgive me. :|

If these posts are on the suck forum, I'm afraid we won't be moderating them. We really don't want to or like to moderate, but will when it's appropriate.

I think the real problem here (at least with the posts I've read) is that we have an awful lot of children posting here lately.

I must not be reading a lot of different sections, because, besides the "joe incident" and HF musings about ooz and violating SCIN's orafices, I haven't seen a lot of attacking against ppl going on.

Histrionic means excessively dramatic or overly (perhaps even overtly) emotional. Or, I guess he could be applying it as though ppl are "putting on a show" as in "of, or relating to actors or acting"

Yeh, somebody needs to start the "Stop the Butt Violators" campaign for some of these people that might be molested in the woods of Eastern Kentucky.

Okay, okay...from now on I won't post anymore about Ho. But if you don't see him for awhile, it's not because he's living in the crawl space under my house feeding off termites. Really, it's not

But I do like the drama!!!

Totally agree. Free speech is awesome and all. But when people pull this middle school crap and start bad mouthing people. If you do that then it turns rrc.com to nothing more than bathroom writing. If you have a problem with someone then get the guts to talk to them personally. Don't be a coward and hide behind a sn. This site is so much better than that.

Can you develop a filter for us users that just want to view posts about climbing? Hijacking and chaff have overrun what was a great site. Whiners without audiences stop whining.

we have a new forum to which we will move hijacked threads, or sometimes just the parts of them which have been hijacked. Ray has also moved the non-climbing forums into a seperate section of forums called "The Pit." I recommend staying away from that section, and we'll do our best to keep the climbing forums clean. Please PM Wes or me when you see something getting out of control and we'll try to fix it.
