I think she missed a "not" between "are" and "prohibited". (wishful thinking that is)Thanks for your inquiry. Rock climbing and rappelling are not permitted within 300 feet of Chimney Rock at any time. Also, climbing and rappelling are prohibited within 300 feet of Sky Bridge, Gray's Arch and
Nada Tunnel. Chimney Rock, Grey's Arch, and Sky Bridge are such popular places that restrictions were needed for the safety of the technical
climber and for the casual hiker. I'm sure you can only imagine the safety
issues involved with climbing or rappelling around Nada Tunnel - for both
climbers and unsuspecting driver's. Please let us know if you have further
questions.

I just had to ask to verify what I had read because of the conflicting information out there.

there is a trail going to the bottom of chimney rock. It starts about 1/4 of the way down the tourist trail, then veers right and goes down the hill. really nice walls down there. If you go down there in the spring thru fall watch out for copperheads, the area is full of them. I have carried out many bags of aluminium cans from the bottom of chimney rock. Their is quite alot of trash down there.
If you're lucky enough to be in the mountains...You're lucky enough...
