A book on how to live with my bear................. :?

She is most likely still miffed over the guy bushhogging her baby last spring.......

Yes and one of her cubs. I saw them in a meadow not too far from my place (gosh, I love that: my place!) I only have a small strip of land between me and the forest service. Several black bears were released into the DB recently. There is a creek and cave system back there. The story goes that she had bedded a cub down in tall grass, and someone accidently ran over it. She attacked the bushhog, and the guy made a hasty retreat. Poor mama...........

My goal for the winter is to learn more about black bears and their behaviors. I want to live comfortably with my new neighbors when I finally get to move out there!

Growing up in Pennsylvania my dad's faily vacatiopn was at Minister's Creek in the Alleghany MTS. The black bears used to ocme down at night drink from a very cold creek right next to our camping spot. Saw them for years, never had a problem. IT was a cool ritual. I feel bad for the little cub!

Funny story: Long before my ex lost it (or I drove him to lose it), we were cooking out in the Smokies one beautiful day when a black bear decided to join the party. I grabbed the offspring, jumped in the truck, and locked him and the bear out!

I also locked closed him up in the smoke house with a huge rat once. I guess he should have seen the handwriting on the wall at either of those junctures.................
