Our Sept. 20 MFRP Trail Day Was a Huge Succcess!

Post by RRGCC »

Our Land Management crew has been busy in the weeks leading up to Rocktoberfest: on September 20th, a group of students from EKU teamed up with climbing community volunteers and trail leaders for a day of hard work and good times at Miller Fork!

Some of the items they checked off the to-do list include:
- finished armoring projects on the newest (and seasonally wettest) sections of the Highlands area trails
- bench cut existing trail to the Monastery
- cut new access trail to Monastery routes on both sides
- graveled initial approach to main trailhead
- Moved, dug in, and buried a 5' wide, 9' tall, and 10" thick slab of sandstone to be the mounting point and for the recent Lee County and RRGCC lock and chains (see our press release on the ribbon cutting ceremony)

Special thanks to Andrew and Hannah Tolliver for letting us use their rigging (and trash it in the process) and brains to get the rock slab moved! This huge task could not have been done without your genius!

For more info on trail days, info on how to get involved, or to donate, please visit http://rrgcc.org (http://rrgcc.org/donate for the latter).

***Come check out the results of our hard work and help us pack down the trails as you sprint from crag to crag this Saturday from 10am-5pm at the Rocktoberfest Clip-n-Go climbing competition! $20 buys you a scoresheet that includes a map of the area, and puts you in the running for some awesome prizes from our comp sponsor: Black Diamond! http://rrgcc.org/register ***
