Register by calling Fox Mountain Guides at 888-28-GUIDE. Participants should bring a small lunch, water bottle, and close-toed shoes. Helmets and climbing gear will be provided.

mssmith wrote:Pisano, here's the hard truth. Climbing isn't something one can just do a couple weekends a year. It is not a spring break activity. No amount of gym training, reading, or courses can prepare you for the real thing. Please don't think you can hire a guide for a day and then be ready to strike out on your own. Unless you live somewhere where you can find experienced climbers to take you out regularly for MONTHS of guidance and instruction, you will always be an unsafe participant in an already dangerous activity.
Months of instruction? With months of instruction you could become a guide, Pisano. Let's not over inflate the risks of modern sport climbing.

But of all the ideas to come from this thread, donate the $40 to Muir Valley and get some awesome instruction while helping out the most beginner friendly section of the entire gorge. You should be dropping nearly that much in the box anyway through the course of a long weekend.

Just got off the phone with Fox Mountain. They were extremely friendly and informative. So looks like I'll be taking that class next Saturday along with one earlier in the week. Thank you for the encouraging responses by some of you. I couldn't be more excited to have my first Red experience.

Hope to see a few of you there!

Also, Are there any other "beginners" out there who are looking to take a class next week? Rates are much cheaper in group. Let me know!

I've got a picture of Clif backwards in a dihedral proving that he is. For the right money I might post it.
