Courthouse Rock

Post by milspecmark »

Has anyone climbed the south Face of Courthouse Rock. I usually scramble up the eastern side (I think is is called "Standard Route". Latley I have dropped a rope down the south face (The face you always see in the pictures and the part you can see as you hike down auxier ridge) and rapel down. It looks like a fantastic climb and I was trying to see if any of you had done it before. I read the online guidebook but none of those routes seem like the right one. any feedback would be appreciated.

We have climbed it and could only find one way through. We just TRed it. There wasn't enough gear for safe voyage and it took multiple attempts. The top is tough as it rounds from vertical over to horizontal. It is kind of like an alligator skin pattern with slopey stuff on the edges.

I know of a few others attempting/climbing it. It's an obvious face and so has drawn attention over the years. I'd guess it's like TradMike says and there is only one viable line, and its harder than most people want to climb after hiking out there and scrambling up to set up a TR. Never bothered myself, but have looked longingly at it.

To me it looked really easy most of the way up and then a bit difficult the last 3rd. 5.12 seems tough but not so bad on top rope
