Ticks are bad this year

A group of us were down last weekend and holly cow, I can not even count how many Ticks we pulled off ourselves. Then, we found a bunch in our bed. Just be aware, I have been going down to the Red for many years and many many weekends. Never had a tick problem like this.

Where were you in particular?

I know the bears den is usually pretty bad.

I have mostly seen lone star ticks, I have never seen a deer tick out there.

Its funny I have been hearing that for weeks now and still have not had a single one. And i've been spending my time in the bush working on trails...... Maybe i'm lucky, or taste like shit....

I gotta second that the bears den seems significantly worse than other crags on the tick front.

Indeed, no Lyme yet in Kentucky but Erlichiosis and STARI are concerns, particularly with regard to the Lone Star tick...

Be sure to use fine-point tweezers to grab the tick by the mouth parts (NOT the body!) and remove as much of the head as you can... squeezing the body or leaving mouth parts in your skin dramatically increases your risk of infection! I have removed two or three this year completely intact and still alive after removal.

I heat up the tweezers with a lighter first. They come out easier when there ass is on fire.
