to the friends of mike tucker

Post by anticlmber »

so i hate to bring up sad topics but i need some help. i am trying to help put together a memorial service and a plaque for mike. i have spoken with some of the family and with many of his friends and while the date isn't set yet it will be in the fall.
the problem i am having is putting together the plaque, mainly what to say on it. so far i just have a small explanation, (i.e. suffered injuries, i'm not putting anything too detailed in it) but after that i'm blank.

what i would like to ask is:
1) DOB, date of accident(blocked it out), and date of passing.
2) any input on what to write on the plaque
3) anything else i might not have thought about
mike's dad sent me a photo and a quote mike loved and that will be on there as well. i'm all for simple but i want it to be as good as it can be.

feel free to PM me please
thanks

JR,
Here is an idea. We talked about doing a plaque when Ben died up at the SC (his favorite cliff.) Family were not interested. How about a plaque to remember Red climbers who have passed, either as result of tragedy while climbing in the Red, (or anywhere else) or have passed for other reasons (Ben, John, Alex, Terry, .... )
I could have an etching of cliff, maybe a verse, John Muir's comes to mind "Climb the mountains and get their good tidings...." something...
The reason for a memorial plaque is because names could be added to it. The reality is that there will be others names to add (unfortunately).
I think of the plaque in the opening scene and closing scene (which really exists) in the movie "The Perfect Storm", in Gloucester, MA with all the names of the Gloucester fishermen who have died at sea. Ours is the same, -- different discipline but a tight community that wants to memorialize the ones passed.
Where to put it? Miguel's, of course, provided he and Dario would be okay with it.
Just a idea ....

I think that's an excellent idea.

When Johnny & Alex died we discussed putting a plaque up at PMRP, but I couldn't deal with it at the time. It was too difficult. We also discussed putting a plaque up at Miguel's too. I think it is a good idea to have a plaque for all of our friends who have passed, like you suggest Hugh. Thanks for the idea. Time allows us to think about these things easier.
