wall of denial

Post by EricDorsey »

guess thats why they call it that cause I got denied.

Drove from slade through the nada tunnel, came to a big white 2 lane cement looking bridge as the road turns right and goes over a large river, big parking area on the left which looked like a popular hiking trail.... Didn't read the guide book close enough I guess because it says a "white cement one lane bridge". So I take it I was at the wrong bridge since the one i stopped at had two lanes?

Everythign else from the guide book made sense... parking area on left before the bridge, then we hiked down to the river and followed it upstream for over a mile til the trail petered out and figured we were in the wrong area. The river was pretty big though and I assumed it was the red, if not what river did I hike up stream along?

Im assuming there is a one lane bridge just past the big 2 lane cement bridge i was at?

Don't know the water you were near, but you definitely needed to drive further to the next bridge. It has a nice paved lot with a pit toilet. The trail goes down a short hill from the back corner of the parking lot next to the bridge. You should ask someone who has been there how to get to the wall as well. It can be missed easily as well.
Oh man, he is messing that up. However, he is missing his left leg so that way would probably be harder for him. SCIN, just before spraying some beta for a climber doing a route the WRONG way.

i did something similar in Zion once. I missed the first direction which was "cross the road". after a couple hours of hiking around i looked across the valley and saw the wall we were supposed to be climbing and realized the mistake.

I would guess that you were at Gladie Creek, you still had a ways to go to the parking for WOD.
Great climbing at WOD, but it is a hike to reach. You will probably feel lost the first time you go, but just stick to the directions in guide book and you will find it.
If you happen to end up on along the upper red river (heading upstream) and come to a big feeder creek(you would definitely get wet up to your waist if you crossed) on your left, you went to far. Go back downstream a little bit (200 yrds?) and then just bushwack up to the cliff line. Eventually you will figure it out.

be sure to count the drainages you cross as you hike in. imeadiatly after the proper one, 3rd or 4th? its uphill through the rhodos to the left of the river. the path gets obscured by rhodos there.

If you walk past a bunch of limestone caves, you're on the right track. Don't go up the hill to your left too soon though.
