Maybe the signs were approved by the land owner (so that climbers would be more motivated to donate money for the purchase of the property) instead of taking the access for granted? Conspiracy....

That's what we need. More conspiracy theories and uninformed hypotheses  Really, I doubt that's the case. The land owners dig us.

If the land -owners dig us then no worries about the signs. They(the oil companies )are over-stepping their authority. They cannot prohibit surface usage with permission. It's sad that things have become so polarized. The simple facts in the matter are that the oil companies cannot put up gates or enforce no tresspassing unless they have the landowners active participation(the surface land owner would have to be the one who goes to court)Please correct me if I'm wrong.Lawyers?
What we need to find out is if,the landowners have sudenly taken a disliking to us and are willing to prosecute. And two if there is any way to placate the oil companies.(personnally I'd SWALLOW to keep things nicey, nicey!!)
Anyone have the phone number to Charmange oil co.I'd love to give him a call and offer my...um..... services!!!

Woah there killer. I'm not sure what type of discussions are going on but try to think of it this way. 1) the RRGCC is actively working to resolve this problem; 2) regardless of the resolution of this issue, we are going to have to have a working relationship with the oil companies upon purchasing the land; 3) we have to tread lightly but keep actively trying to protect our rights. The deal is, if in fact people are blocking rigs, which I don't know if that's what happened or not yet, then the oil companies can act. What action they are allowed to take is one for the mineral rights lawyers to figure out. Either way, I promise that the RRGCC is on it. I'm not privvy to that particular negotiation but it IS happening. I promise.

I'll chime in. I am speaking for myself now. (I lurk and don't post very often b/c I usually say things I later regret, but fuck it...)
Who was the stupid son of a bitch that got into a confrontation with a man trying to do his job. I don't know the facts, but I can't see them too far off from this- an oil worker trying to do his job asks a climber to move his mis-parked vehicle. Climber gives him attitude and male egos prevail becoming a heated verbal exchange. Who was this climber, b/c I would personally like to make an example out of him.
The oil people down there are hard working blue collar Lee County folks who have very famously tolerated our prescence, a fact that has always impressed me at their open mindedness. Now, for want of a minimal amount of empathy and courtesy on the part of a self important, self entitled climber, the owner of Charmane has taken the predictable and justifiable reflex reaction to "make the problem go away". Throw up the signs, the gates to soon follow, and the RRGCC is left trying to clean up the mess and fight a rear guard action to keep the place open and repair what was a very good relationship with a group that had nothing to gain from being tolerant of the climbers. WE ALL SUFFER!

Who was this climber?

Now, speaking as a board member, I can tell you the RRGCC is trying to resolve the issue. Please be patient and avoid any confrontation with the Charmane staff.
I would agree with Tomdarch that signage to direct climbers to appropriate parking and in general let them know what behavior is expected, as well as alternate parking. The oil folks and their work are a reality and we have to give them the room to do their job.
"It really is all good ! My thinking only occasionally calls it differently..."

Well said Lurkist.
I try to be a good man but all that comes
of trying is I feel more guilty.
