a good way to stop repeat offenders is to get them arrested. first order of business, check you neighborhood for scraggly looking kids. weed isn't free. and high school kids and post-highschool-live-at-homes tend to rob nearby houses they know rather than hit mysterious houses on the other side of town.

also, have you checked all the pawn shops in the bluegrass area for your stuff? craigslist? ebay? if they're smart they'll wait a bit to move the high end stuff (or sell it at school), but sometimes thieves tend not to be so bright.

since you've been wiped out several times you might consider signs on each door explaining the situation:

"please don't kick me down. all the valuable stuff i was protecting has already been stolen. thank you for your patience"

good luck.

set them up, and stake out your place. or you could also buy a cheap gun, leave it in plain sight, and hook a few car batteries up to it. i'm not sure how that would work, but it seems like it should.

If you set booby traps, beware: unless you kill them, they WILL sue you and they WILL win.
Sarcasm is a tool the weak use to avoid confrontation. People with any balls just outright lie.

A good security system that notifies the authorities, loud alarm, secure doors, and windows. They'll go to your niehbors.

If the cost of a securty system is out of the question go and buy the little blue ADT sign you see in peoples front yards. Along with the stickers to put on your windows and doors. They might be detered just by the thought of an alarm.

Don't get a golden retriever. My friend just got robbed and his golden retriever apparently just wagged its tail and played with the robbers while everything was stolen from his house. He even lives in a neighborhood in Lexington.

my sister lives in Memphis. The general solution there is to bar the windows and add security doors. Apparently they are such a PITA to get around that thieves go where it is easier.

But a tazer wired to the doorknob would be much more entertaining.

I liked the sign on the storage building which read:

This building is now guarded and protected with a side-by-side 12 guage 3 of 7 days! Good luck on today not being one of the 3!
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

I recently heard of a man winning a case (I think here in KY) where he had broken into a home and got injured so he sued the owners of the house. So suggesting that you watch Home Alone for tips is probably not a good idea.
