I agree with reachhigh. I would have never heard about the stuff at Nolin Lake without finding it RC.com. Other than that, it sucks.

I get on RC.com for the sake of the Coalition to put events on their calendar and to promote RRGCC events and other activities. I find their Access and Accident forums sometimes have some good info. It seems like Jay Young who has taken over the site is trying to improve it.

the only time this place resembles the crap that is rc.com is in the route comments section of the online guide... and that is just sometimes.

I'm a total n00b on this site, and have posted on rockclimbing.com for years. The redeeming feature of the site is that I've met quite a few very cool people on it, all over the nation. You would think that, given the idiocy of its content, that most of the users would be morons, but that has not been my experience.

Lately, at least since it got taken over by a skydiving website a couple years ago, it has really gone downhill. The biggest victim was definitely the photos section; we used to have great photographers (like wes) who contributed. Now, the photos suck, searching them is a chore, and whatever criteria the site uses to get pics on the front page is obviously terrible.

Jay, the new administrator, is trying to really improve the site. This may work; I know him, he's a good guy, and definitely much more in touch with the climbing community than any previous owners since Michael Reardon. Lately he has been doing some interesting stuff like posting interviews with people like John Bachar, and there is a great piece on the front page about the beginning days of the Access Fund. Who knows, it may get better.

However, the bottom line seems to be that rc.com is largely a place for n00bs to go, post their drivel, and then get all butthurt when older users such as myself and a few other losers make fun of them. Most people, once they get more into climbing, go to places that cater to their specific regions, such as supertopo, mountainproject, or right here.

I feel excatly like you do but in an opposite way -I'm a long-time poster on this site, and have barely posted on rockclimbing.com. The redeeming feature for redriverclimbingdotcom is that I've met quite a lot very uncool people here, for instance anitclimber and that wierd guy in the park that just wanted to talk. You would think that, given the high-level of our content, that most of the users would be geniuses, and that has been my experience.

This wont work; I barley know him, he's a wierd guy, and much more in touchy-feeling (the bad kind with Ho) with the climbing community than any previous climbers like Saxman. Lately he has been doing some wierd stuff like posting interviews with people like Barac Obama, and there is a weird piece on the front page about the current ideas of the RRGCC. You know, it could always be worse.

However, the bottom line seems to be that redriverclimbingdotcom is never a place for n00bs to go, post their wisdom (ie redpoint), and then get all headachey when younger-at-heart users such as myself and a few other "winners" make idols of them. Few people, once they get less into climbing, go home and sit on the computer all winter like we do right here.

I think we all enjoy being noobs, morons and idiots when on-line, no matter what site we post on. Then we get all real, when we actually meet up and climb. That's cool for me.
