Muir Valley Dog Ban

Post by Liz_Weber »

Reminder:

Effective January 1, 2008, no dogs are permitted in Muir Valley, with a very few exceptions.

We regret having to put the rule into effect. We have many good friends with dogs whom this will unfortunately impact, and we are pet lovers ourselves. But, after trying in vain for four years to work out a solution, we see no course other than this one.

So why are there exceptions? We don't want to penalize those few owners of well-behaved dogs who have contributed an enormous amount of talent and effort in making MV what it has grown into today.

If you feel like flaming Rick and me for this ban, fine. As an alternative, you might consider admonishing the many irresponsible owners of unruly, unleashed dogs who negatively impacted the climbing experience for many other visitors, in spite of repeated reminders over the past four years. But, please don't take out your frustrations on the few who were granted exception permits.

I for one totally support your decision. Thanks for everything!
I've been a gumby longer than you've been climbing.

The fact that You didn't ban them a couple years ago is testament to your tolerance. Maybe it will cut down on the crowds and solve both problems although I'm sure dog owners are disapointed. I believe they are acustomed to tolerating things from thier dogs and don't realize that not everyone wants to.

i really doubt that either of the weber's will answer this, but is it only dogs that are banned, or any kind of pet? laugh you may, but i've seen a fair number of people with cats at the crag.
