you pulled the ladder up

you find your sights and discover

that saturn is orbiting nothing

is breaking from home.

harder to look yourself square in the eye
easy to take off.

you found the ladder in the pattern of your wrist
you've seen and you've marked horizons

you climb into your rocketship triumph
lift up and hold out your hands.

easy to take off, harder to fly
harder to wake galileo.

You see me and you laugh out loud
You taunt me from safe inside your crowd
My looks, they must threaten you
To make you act the way you do

Red, I'm seeing red

You see me and you think I'm a jerk
First impressions without a word
You can't believe your eyes at first
But now you know you've seen the worst

Red, I'm seeing red

What it is - Bad Religion

There's a purpose, There's a goal
There's virtuous, and immoral
There's a reason for all of this
And I don't know what it is

I am one, and plural too
I accept them but they exclude
I could make sense of all of this
But I don't know what it is

The seeds of inspiration never
germinated in my mind
The beacon of awakening is
somewhere that I can't find
So I don't know what it is

There's a beginning, and there's an end
There's a climax, some would contend
There's a way to signify this
But I don't know what it is

Blind Melon - I forgot
Find myself singing the same songs
every day
one's that make me feel good
when things behind the smile ain't ok
Around the road and in between the seams
I need to be on top of a mountain
where I can see everything
'cause this paranoia's getting old

As I open my eyes to start
another day
I'm in a pile of puke, empty bags of excuses
my love for friends and family
you know I need them
and over again I've seen it all before
and my feet are so cold
and I can't believe that I'm gonna bang my head
against this wall again
but the blows- they have a little more space in between them
Gonna take my breath and try
to try again
Blind Melon - Yellow House
Now the mistakes that I've made no, they don't seem to bother me
and I sure as hell don't feel like I've missed
any kind of train.
If I could only show you how I feel
then you wouldn't bother me
Then maybe you'd see -
then maybe you'd see why we don't mind being blind
As I was a was as a little child. .
And I'm feelin' better when I'm high
With a little light shining on
Shining on a little unity
The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own.
You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president.
You realize that you control your own destiny.

I could quote Zappa all day but this is one I heard on my way back from the red this weekend. the whole thing is good but my favorite lines are in the last verse.

Frank Zappa-Dumb all Over:
Whoever we are
Wherever were from
We shoulda noticed by now
Our behavior is dumb
And if our chances
Expect to improve
Its gonna take a lot more
Than tryin to remove
The other race
Or the other whatever
From the face
Of the planet altogether

They call it the earth
Which is a dumb kinda name
But they named it right
cause we behave the same...
We are dumb all over
Dumb all over,
Yes we are
Dumb all over,
Near n far
Dumb all over,
Black n white
People, we is not wrapped tight

Nurds on the left
Nurds on the right
Religous fanatics
On the air every night
Sayin the bible
Tells the story
Makes the details
Sound real gory
bout what to do
If the geeks over there
Dont believe in the book
We got over here

You cant run a race
Without no feet
n pretty soon
There wont be no street
For dummies to jog on
Or doggies to dog on
Religous fanatics
Can make it be all gone
(I mean it wont blow up
n disappear
Itll just look ugly
For a thousand years...)

You cant run a country
By a book of religion
Not by a heap
Or a lump or a smidgeon
Of foolish rules
Of ancient date
Designed to make
You all feel great
While you fold, spindle
And mutilate
Those unbelievers
From a neighboring state

To arms! to arms!
Hooray! thats great
Two legs aint bad
Unless theres a crate
They ship the parts
To mama in
For souvenirs: two ears (get down!)
Not his, not hers, (but what the hey? )
The good book says:
(it gotta be that way!)
But their book says:
Revenge the crusades...
With whips n chains
n hand grenades...
Two arms? two arms?
Have another and another
Our God says:
There aint no other!
Our God says
Its all okay!
Our God says
This is the way!
............

And when his humble tv servant
With humble white hair
And humble glasses
And a nice brown suit
And maybe a blond wife who takes phone calls
Tells us our God says
Its okay to do this stuff
Then we gotta do it,
cause if we dont do it,
We aint gwine up to hebbin!
(depending on which book youre using at the
Time...cant use theirs... it dont work
...its all lies...gotta use mine...)
Aint that right?
Thats what they say
Every night...
Every day...
Hey, we cant really be dumb
If were just following gods orders
Hey, lets get serious...
God knows what hes doin
He wrote this book here
An the book says:
He made us all to be just like him,
So...
If were dumb...
Then God is dumb...
(an maybe even a little ugly on the side)

:

Well if you're inclined to go up on the wall,
It can only be fast and high!
And those who don't like the danger
Soon find something different to try!
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

Yeah, so I read poetry on the shitter.....
Rumi wrote:Birdsong brings relief
to my longing.

I am just as ecstatic as they are,
but with nothing to say!

Please, universal soul, practice
some song, or something, through me!
Rumi again wrote:Lo, I am with you always,
you promised that,
and when I realized it was true, my soul flared up.

Any unhappiness comes from forgetting.
Remember, and be back close
with the Friend.
Sherman Alexie wrote:"Sherman," says the critic, "How does the oral tradition apply to your work?"

"Well," I say, as I hold my latest book close to me, "It doesn't apply at all because I typed this. And when I'm typing, I'm really, really quiet."
