Let's not get too carried away and make mountains out of molehills. I was making my comments in, on what I considered to be, a conversation about one particular line in the Red. Granted it is a thread which has taken on many different topics and meandered a lot. If we want to get into generalized "moral rules of law" about all bolting/FA/trad-lining/etc debate then I'll bow out b/c I think it is a topic in which no one is ever going to agree because we all climb for different reasons with our own lines of ethics.
Feel free to pick apart and abstract into the outer stratisphere everything I say. Yee-haw on it in fact. Make your own jollies.
I'm not saying an FA doesn't deserve respect.
Nor am I saying the people who find routes and explore crags and make them in the least bit way accessible should be ignored either.
Nor am I saying history isn't interesting.
Nor would I dare to say that people try to re-write history.
I personally think that people who poach routes and then brag about it are sad individuals.
I think that much like any tradtion, it can change and will change sometimes for the good an sometimes for the bad.
I think a lot of people post on this bored reading only the most recent post and then respond off of that.
I think that I like the color blue a lot and hot fresh cinnamon rolls.
Oh, and I like to climb. But I don't like soloing. But I boulder. Does that make me a hypocrite?
In other words, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
"Closed Project" crack???
The FA of Hot September was not done by the John Long you're thinking of. It was another John Long.Huggybone wrote: I've got to disagree. Example: I think its really cool that John long put up hot september. Is it an 'great feat?' No. But I remember.

JUST TO CLARIFY, I WENT DOWN YESTERDAY MORNING AFTER BREAKFAST AND CLIMBED THE ROUTE A COUPLE MORE TIMES JUST TO SEE IF THE BOLT WAS NEEDED FOR SAFETY OF BODY OR MIND. AFTER A FEW BURNS I DECIDED IT WAS FOR THE MIND AND NOW THE LONELY BOLT AND HANGER HANG FROM MY REARVIEW AS A REMINDER THAT BOLTING CRACKS IS NEVER NECESSARY.
I JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH CRACK!

I was there when he pulled out the bolt. It was a bitch to take out and took a long ass time. The mono that was left was way too small and sharp so we took the drill and made it a little more user friendly. Now there is a bad-ass two finger pocket and you cant even tell its not natural!!!!!
