Church Rock?

Post by DaggerX »

Can anyone tell me how to get to Church Rock. I went looking for it but came up empty handed. I parked across the road from torrent at the church and head up the hill behind it but can't find any bolts or even a place that looks like anyone has been doing any climbing.

Thanks

Church Rock is the area where the Via Ferrata is now located (managed by the owners of Torrent Falls B&B). Saddly enough that area is closed to climbing as we know it.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

...but you can still climb around on a rope there... Sounds like fun to me

Don't judge the via Ferrata too harshly. Mark and Cathy, the proprietors, are very, very climber friendly but they have to make a living. The via Ferrata is a nice attraction for non-climbers. While it does totally suck that those routes are lost, Torrent Falls will stay open and is still being developed.

I didn't think the via Ferrata would be worth trying (& I still probably won't do it), but interestingly, some of the Access Fund board members - all long-time climbers - tried it out and said it was a blast. Yeah, I was surprised, too!

While I realize that Mark and Cathy are very climber friendly, that doesn't mean I can't judge the VF harshly. I've been thru this speal before....why did I enter in it again.
